Paidion Place

FAQ's - Paidion Place

Q:   What do I have to do to be able to serve in Paidion Place?

You will need to fill out a background check form and be cleared prior to serving with the children. This will ensure the appropriateness and fit of volunteers working with our children. Once this process is completed, an interview will be done with you by the Director.  Then after the interview you will be  scheduled to “shadow” lead teachers in a classroom that you wish to work with.

Q:    My child has an allergy, how will the leaders of the classroom know?
We require all parents to complete a registration form which asks for allergy and special needs information for each child. If your child has an allergy or special need that the teacher would need to be aware of, this will be noted on the child’s badge or wrist band in red. It is the parent’s responsibility to make sure the child wears/obtains the badge on Sunday at the registration table.  Many parents choose to send their child a special snack due to allergies for snack time.

Q:   What curriculum do you use?
We use First Look curriculum.  Check it out at http://www.myfirstlook.org/

Q:  What should I do if my child cries when I drop them off?
Try to prepare your child prior to class. At home (in an excited voice), pray that your child will have an amazing time at church, learn about Jesus, and make new friends. Describe to the child that church is going to a fun and safe place with teachers who will teach him or her about Jesus.  If the child seems scared, you can try one of two things.  One, you can stay and help in the class for a few visits.  This will normalize the setting as a safe place.  If one is not your style, plan ahead by bringing a transitional object for the child.  Transitional items could include blankets, bracelet of mom's, special pin, or even a temporary tattoo.  Tell your child that if he or she feels sad/scared, they simply need to hold/rub the transitional object to remind them of Mommy and Daddy. At the door, check your feelings and remain calm.  If the child senses your anxiety, they will be anxious as well. Then, simply give them a hug and kiss, smile and say good-bye.  Leave the child's sight.  From there, the teachers will love on the children that need extra attention.  Don't worry.  If your child really needs assurance from Mom or Dad, staff members will be sure to call you.

Q:  What do the children do in Theater time?
In Paidion Place, our theater team creates a fun environment for our Bible story to come to life through puppet shows, skits, and acting out real life situations. Through this interactive experience the children hear God’s word in a fun way and are able to remember it.  After hearing the Bible story we also worship God using songs that incorporate our Bottom Line for the month.

Q:  What does a Small Group leader do?

Small group leaders allow for an environment that provides children interactive activities, where children can share openly through real-life discussions, creating an atmosphere for growing in a relationship with Christ. A small group leader commits to less than 10 children in a group within the classroom.

Q:  What are the teacher/child ratios to ensure safety in the classrooms?

The ratios vary depending on the age of the children.

The ratios are as follows:
Nursery - 1 adult per 2 children
Ones - 1 adult per 3 children
Twos - 1 adult per 5 children
Threes - 1 adult per 8 children
Fours - 1 adult per 10 children
Fives - 1 adult per 12 children

We take every action to keep our children safe.  We cannot accept anymore children into a classroom once the ratio for that classroom has reached capacity.
